Flash Fiction Friday #27

There up in the sky. It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Flash Fiction Friday.

The rules:

You will write an anecdote, short story, or novel length prose poem beginning with the sentence below.

You will add comments to this post indicating your desire to participate and the completion of your story.

You may join in at any time prior to the deadline.

You will display your story as a post on your own blog.

You will be done by Monday 12:00 Noon CST.

Those are all the rules, if you ask me about the rules or if something is or isn't allowed by the rules, all the snakes that live in your yard will mysteriously move inside.

Here we go: The transom. If forgot the transom…

Have fun.

No snakes living in my house - damn what a relief! Don't ask me how, but I'm done - seriously - it was the shower - it just came to me - I'm actually afraid kinda sorta - had to jump out and get it written before I forgot it

Wow...it's been a long time since I've done it, but I think I'm going to attempt it this week.

Hi, I'm new here, but I'm in.
I found you through, um, actually I'm not 100% sure where - too much link-clicking I'm afraid.
But sure, I'll give this one a try.

Trini, I thought you were in Trini. I could never ignore you.

Ok, I'm in too. But damn if I know what to do with that lead-in "If forgot, the transom would feel left out."

when i got back from trini i posted this looong comment on your "promise i won't" post, saying i would start calling you and whispering in your ear in my trini accent and such, but you didn't take me up on my offer, alas...
i'm still in (fff) though. back soon with results.
walk good.

jj- a question before i can actually write this: your starter says "the transom. if forgot the transom..."
did you mean "I forgot the transom" or "IF I forgot the transom"?
i'd like to use your original intention...
walk good.

At March 04, 2006 11:19 AM, Blogger JJ said...

My bad, it should read "I forgot the transom."

Write good.

Oh, Trini, if you were to call me here the sparks would totally fly. Unfortunately, most of them would be coming out of the gun MLA would use to kill me.

Not that it wouldn't be worth it.

I think I'm in. I hope I'm in. I've got it half-written but it seems to be arguing for some length that I disagree with since it would take more time and might prevent getting it finished.

Damn stories. Minds of their own. But I'll show it who's boss!

I'm stewing on it. It's soaking in up there in the neural pathways and when the buzzer tings, I will (half-assedly) take the half-baked thing out of the oven. That is, if it doesn't drift off through the transom of my mind. Hee hee.

Well, I don't think I am going to make it in this week. I shall lavish everyone else with gooey, warm praise to make up for it, though, I promise.

Good news and bad news. My fiction is up. It's posted. However, it's incomplete. It's an "in progress" thing:

The cowboy in the transom

Although not finished, 90% of the ending is in my head - and very entertaining. However, I started writing this as a "let's see where this goes" thing. The more I write, the more involved it gets, the more the characters start becoming a bit more solid (though they are still at this point caricatures) and the more intrigued by it I become.

I hope I can get it finished one of these days (sooner rather than later) so I can go back and rewrite it to fix the continuity problems etc. There are quite a few.

Blah blah blah ... as if anyone cares. Anyway, this is what I came up with this time around. (And just how did the cowboy end up in the transom?)
